Deeply inspired by the ocean and her love of kayaking.

Meg has a particular affinity for painting water and its movement, light, and depth, often featuring the rugged coastline places such as Desolation Sound BC. Her paintings reflect a close connection to the natural world, balanced by a precise and expressive technique.

Meg learned to draw at a young age by watching her father illustrate cartoons for the local newspaper. This laid the groundwork for her artistic journey, though she received no formal art school training and did not seriously commit to her craft until much later in life.

After many years dedicated to opera and classical music, and then returning to school to study graphic design, she rediscovered painting. Meg masterfully incorporates the unique perspectives developed from her musical background and design training. Her works are not merely static images but rather carefully constructed narratives, imbued with a nuanced understanding of rhythm, underlying structure, compelling storytelling, and emotion. This fusion of her life's experiences creates a distinctive artistic voice that resonates with depth and authenticity.

Meg lives North Burnaby, BC, with her husband, three kids, and her dog.

Frequent Asked Questions

How are your paintings created:

With all my paintings, I start with a sketch to help me understand the subject and organize my layout. Then I draw directly onto my canvas or wood panel with artist-grade pencil. The pencil is sometimes covered in the final artwork, but often it is used to create more texture and depth in the artwork. After sketching on my substrate, I will spray it with a fixative that allows me to cover the surface with my underpainting layer. From there I establish the lights and darks of the painting and begin to build the artwork. I use artist-grade oil paints and do my best to keep my practices as environmentally friendly as possible.
